Today marks day two of the Kagan confirmation hearings. Yesterday’s kick off of the hearing was without many fireworks—mostly opening statements from the committee members and Solicitor General Kagan. But Mediate reminds us of the signifigance of the event—whether or not it creates a media firestorm. They write “Every few years, we, as Americans, get to sit back and literally watch history being made in front of our very eyes. We get to see our country’s future being written. We get to watch Senator Al Franken fall asleep.” During Elena Kagan’s opening remarks today, Sen. Franken had a bit of a hard time keeping his eyes open. In his defense, I’m sure many people who watch the confirmation hearings felt the same way.
